Torticollis, the main cause of neck pain

Bad sleeping position, Arnold’s neuralgia , false movement… There are many causes of neck pain. Torticollis is usually triggered when you have slept badly or after a work session in an uncomfortable position: be careful not to confuse the pain with cervical osteoarthritis .

Torticollis can also find its origin because of significant stress… To recognize it, it’s very simple: you have enormous difficulty moving your neck and each movement is torture… But how to relieve him? Here are our 4 tips to relieve your neck pain.

Our simple and practical advice to soothe neck pain

Tip n°1: Massage to relieve a sore neck

Soft and regular or deeper, massaging or having the neck massaged is a good idea to release the tensions accumulated in the neck. It is these tense points that usually cause the greatest pain!

For more efficiency, it is advisable to use a massage oil and/or essential oils of lavender for a state of total well-being. If you’re not a fan of massages, you can also heat the painful area with a heat source such as a hot water bottle, a damp washcloth or take a hot bath…

Tip #2: Good bedding to relieve neck pain

To sleep , it is better to have the right pillow, that is to say one that fits your cervical curvature well, ideally an ergonomic pillow. Be careful if you sleep on your stomach! This position tends to accentuate the natural curvature of your neck and therefore may cause you pain. Similarly, the quality of your mattress greatly impacts your neck pain. Make sure it is neither too hard nor too soft and remember to change it every 10 years.

Tip n°3: A good installation at work to relieve neck pain

Do not stay for hours in front of the computer: raise your screen with a support or, failing that, books or encyclopedias. It should be at eye level.

If you work on a laptop , invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse. Indeed, working on a laptop can quickly become uncomfortable and risks severely damaging your neck.

Finally, avoid using the phone by placing the handset between your shoulder and your ear: this position places your neck horizontally and can cause problems in the long run.

Tip 4: Appropriate clothing to relieve the neck

Finally, for cervical in shape, know that your outfit is of paramount importance! If you are prone to these pains, know that wearing high heels can play a role.

The same is true if you are a fan of backpacks. Be sure to keep a reasonable weight on your shoulders and do not hesitate to change posture regularly.

Finally, wearing a scarf helps keep your neck in a good position. It’s a good alternative if you ever start to feel some discomfort, but you can’t calm the pain like in our tip #1.
